This is as unique and cool as it gets. The Book Radio is designed by Vinay Venkatraman & Pei Yu from the Interaction Design Institute Ivrea in Milan. As the name Book Radio implies, it’s a book that doubles as a radio. How you control the radio is just plain old bizarro. To change stations, you turn the page and to adjust the volume, you slide the bookmark in or out.
Here is how it works:
Technically speaking the book has embedded sensors and a powerful micro-controller (a miniature computer) in the spine. The embedded software can detect the page position by measuring the density of paper and scans a digital radio. The book then wirelessly talks to a base unit with speakers. Alternatively it can be used with headphones just like a personal music player.
