Fire Information Rescue EquipmentStumble This

“After 9/11, the city of Chicago started requiring owners of commercial buildings to register digital floor plans. Now the Chicago Fire Department is working with Moteiv and UC Berkeley engineers to layer live data atop those plans.”

Fire Information Rescue Equipment, FIRE, is a result of those efforts which delivers electronic maps and critical information to firefighters via wirelessly networked sensors during an emergency. It can display a variety of critical information on the firefighters mask such as: occupancy, smoke, light, emergency crews inside a building. The wireless sensors alert fire officials to changes in a structure’s temperature, allowing for fire crew to be aware of any upcoming trouble spots.
