Combining “art†and “technology†in its root state is not an easy thing to do, that is why I liked the Mauritian Sunset so much. For some it can be viewed as a bunch of computer + monitors put together with different colors being displayed on the monitor screen, but for me, I see it as a Vincent van Gogh painting.
The piece of art was on the “Great Artspectations†exhibition that happened earlier this year (January 2006, so this is old but good news) in Edinburgh. The computer wall was made by Sandy Smith with the help of Glasgow School of Art who donated all the computers.
A small doorway was built into the wall, only five and a half foot tall, and two foot wide. The monitors facing forwards showed flat color, working over the wall to create a rough gradient representation of a classic sunset.
More photos available on Sandy’s website.
