Forget about all the other robots that resemble dogs, humans, or anything in particular that mortals like us enjoy to have close by. The Pleo is a different kind of robot because it represents a Camarasaurus, an old-school dinosaur!
The height and weight of this specific robot model is suppose to match the same values as a real 1 week old new-born-dino. As all the other toys of the same kind that try to fake having a brain and acting for themselves, the Pleo also includes some of those popular features such as showing off different expressions or getting tired/sleeping.
Pleo is equipped with senses for sight, sound, and touch. He learns as he explores his environment. He will exhibit genuine reactions to sensory stimuli. Every Pleo begins life with certain tendencies but, interaction with his environment has subtle effects on his behavior. Every Pleo eventually exhibits a unique personality.
The Pleo is produced by Ugobe, a company that develops and markets revolutionary robotic technology that transforms inanimate objects into lifelike creatures that exhibit stunning, organic movement and dynamic behaviors – in this case I have to see it in order to believe it.
Update:
Thanks to William for pointing out that there are some Pleo videos available on the net:
