HEADPLAY, Inc. (whose website is seriously lacking in content despite today’s announcement) today unveiled a new wearable “personal cinema system”. This head-mounted set of stereo displays appears as a virtual 52-inch cinema screen featuring a resolution up to 1024×768. Its controller allows you to plug just about anything into it, from a DVD player to a computer to a videogame console, so you can sit by yourself with a large plastic thing on your face, waving your Wii controller about dangerously at a game no-one else can see.
It seems like another head-mounted video display unit hits the market every so often, is far too overpriced for casual consumers to consider buying it, and quietly fades away after months of lackluster sales. What makes this one different? I really don’t know. It’ll be available this April with a list price of $499.
