Parents, get your kids off to a good start by getting them to listen to good music early with the newly-announced Playskool “Made For Me” line of developmental toys. The line of toys is designed to stimulate or soothe babies through the inclusion of music on a handy Creative MP3 player designed to plug into whichever toy the baby is using at the time.
The player will come pre-loaded with 50 songs, but parents can add their own tracks or even record their voice for their baby to listen to. I say, get rid of whatever “child-friendly” schlock they put on their and load your baby’s player with truly awesome music like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, David Bowie, or The Ramones. Thanks to Playskool, now you can make sure your kid’s musical education starts young, and get them involved in today’s digital music culture as soon as possible. Next up: Babyster, the file-sharing website for kids under 12 months.

My daughter just received this for her first birthday yesterday, and while we haven’t used it much yet, I think it’s pretty cool. It’s nice to be able to load our own music. It does run exclusvely on batteries, which is a good and bad thing. It’s nice to be able to just grab it and go, without worrying about plugging it in (like you can take it to the park, beach, whatever), but of course, you do have to replace the batteries when they run out. It comes with batteries, which is nice. And I have no idea how long batteries will last since we just got it. It does have an automatic shutoff options of one song, 15 minutes or 30 minutes, which is the right amount of time. It would be nice if it ran all night, but that would require it to be plugged in (since I’m not running something all night that’s only runs on batteries!) but that will probably come with a new model. Either way, I do like it and am happy we received it.
