While pedometers are only able to check how many steps you have taken during a specific time and display a result, the Accelarometer is able to do much more. Basically it can measure how many calories you have burned while exercising or doing any other kind of work, just input some data like your weight and the device does the rest, including measuring the frequency, duration and intensity of your movements so it can afterwards display the number of calories burned. There is a good feature to check how good or bad is your progression going, it is the 9 day feature that probably displays the calories number of previous days and compares them to the rest.

PS – the accelarometer has a clip so you can attach it to your belt, and the information is displayed on a LCD screen.

This is really the BioTrainer (www.biotrainerusa.com) developed by IM Systems. It’s actually not exactly an accelerometer.
The technique behind this thing is “NASA like” but still vague to me…
