When you were young, did you dream of the day you could hop in your own rocketship and blast off into outer space? Do you still fantasize about what the future may hold? Have you ever wanted to be a part of the current drive to privatize space flight, embodied by the likes of SpaceShipOne and the Ansari X-Prize? Well, now’s your chance. If you’ve got a lot of money burning a hole in your pocket and want to contribute to the development of a privately-designed and built lunar lander type vehicle, check out this Lunar Lander Auction on eBay.
The vehicle in question is named the Lauryad I and is designed to compete in the Ansari X-Prize’s current challenge, to build a vehicle that can carry a 55-lb. payload, hover for three minutes, navigate to a landing pad, refuel and then fly back to its original launch point. The winning bidder will get to place their name or logo on the vehicle, and will earn half of any prize winnings — up to a cool $675,000. The team designing and building the lander are running the auction to raise funding for their work.
As of this posting, bidding is currently slightly over $3,500, but the Buy It Now price is $199,000. Any interested millionaires with a yen for space travel out there?
