Broken chains, jumping gears, pants legs caught and ripped — bicycles with gears are just one hassle after another. Surely in a world where we can put a man on the moon, someone can come up with a better solution for our pedal-powered vehicles than those finicky gears, right? Well, now someone has. The Ellsworth bicycle company has just released The Ride, a snazzy new bicycle that does away with all those crazy gears and instead uses their brand-new invention, the “NuVinci CVP drive,” which stands for “Continuously Variable Planetary” drive.
What does it mean? No more shifting gears, no more torn pant-cuffs, and no more stopping to re-seat a chain that’s jumped off the teeth of the gear. The CVP smoothly changes the power ratio for you as you increase or decrease speed. For a mere $2995 (or $3995 if you want the Quiet “Belt” Drive option, which replaces the chain with a belt), this beauty can be yours.

Uber means “Super.” This review is NOT super! It’s not even a review! What is it like to ride? how steep a hill? How fast in the fastest gear on the flats? How does it handle? corner? what is the weight? frame size? WHEEL size fer cryin’ out loud!
