my son was born in 1979. before he arrived, a neighbor in the apt building i lived in in nyc, offered me their crib. the family had had three children grown past the crib stage. they insisted it was STILL in great shape. the dad actually said that because of the springs (similarly placed as yours) he will always remember the different sounds each child made on those springs as they rocked themselves to sleep each night. nice, eh? p.s. the springs they had looked a little tighter than yours do. in fact. we were all grateful there could be a little LESS movement - the concept was about being 'gentle' rather than 'frantic.'

I wonder what the spring constant of each spring is, and what the natural frequency of the spring-mass system is. Interesting vibrations problem.
