New Sony PSP

News just in is that the United States can expect to receive a lighter version of the Sony PSP.  Sony seems to be squaring up against the Nintendo DS Lite with this announcement.   The word from Sony is that we can expect the new PSP to be approximately 33% lighter and 19% slimmer.   Indeed, the PSP feels heavy in the hands.  This may just be the thing to boost Sony’s flagging handheld game system sales.

Perhaps the most exciting news for people who have not already got a PSP is that the new model is going to be faster than the original model.  It would appear that this is thanks to an increased buffer memory.  Also announced is a video output that will allow you to play your games on a TV screen via a 2.5 meter cable.  A new color has been added to the line-up.  You will be able to buy the popular “piano black” and “ceramic white,” as before, along with the new “ice silver.”  It will be connectable to PC and PS3 via a USB cable.

The price, as before, $170 ($40 more expensive than a DS Lite).
