They Want to Charge What for What?

Toshiba Gigabeat Theater

On the Toshiba sales site, you are now able to purchase a fully loaded “Gigabeat portable theater.” For the rather expensive asking price, you get 54 episodes of a popular Korean drama titled “Chiyangumu” and 300 popular songs from NHK albums. The Gigabeat that you get is the 30GB version, Gigabeat V30E.

A more affordable 80GB Toshiba Gigabeat option is included after the jump.

Toshiba Gigabeat V801

The Toshiba Gigabeat is a cool media player. It features a 4.0-inch QVGA TFT LCD screen. It plays a wide variety of formats and it can watch television. I would like to see an iPod that can do that. The latest release from Toshiba, the V801 has an 80GB Hard Disk Drive, which can hold even the most massive collection of songs or videos. It is Windows Vista and Windows XP compatible, no Mac support. The website states that you need a Japanese version of the operating system to operate it. However, in my personal experience, I have often installed Japanese software by changing the default language display settings in regions and languages. Everything will continue to run in English, but Japanese programs will run in Japanese.

Connectivity is via a USB port. If they made this thing with onboard Bluetooth, it would really stand out.

Price: $490
