500-Year-Old Tweezers Found in Hunan CityStumble This

Samurai Tweezers

We so often focus on modern technology, so for a change, let us look at some historic technology. Tweezers, which have become so important to modern technology, are by no means an invention that is unique to any one culture.  You will be hard pressed to find where tweezers were invented as the idea is a relatively simple one that probably dates back to the time that humans were using sticks as tools.  Tweezers have been used to perform numerous tasks for many, many years. The tweezers in this picture were used for cosmetic purposes and had an owner that might surprise some readers.

These tweezers date back to the 16th century (the Muromachi period) and are believed to have been used to help keep a samurai looking presentable. Some samurai, it would seem, despite their bravado and willingness to die at a moment’s notice, were metrosexuals. The tweezers were made out of brass and remarkably well preserved. They were found in Hunan City of the Shiga prefecture.

It is good to carry some powdered rouge in one’s sleeve. It may happen that when one is sobering up or waking from sleep, his complexion may be poor. At such a time it is good to take out and apply some powdered rouge. Yamamoto, Hagakure
