Chinese Pop-Up Cops Warn that they are WatchingStumble This

Beijing Internet Police

In addition to boot camps for Internet “addicts,” Chinese Internet users now have to live with constant reminders that they are being watched. Images of a male and female police officer will appear on users screens once every thirty minutes, to warn Chinese Internet users that they are being watched. More than simply receive a warning, by clicking on the police users are able to inform on any suspicious or subversive activities.

The cyber cops will be on the look out for websites and Internet activities that incite secession, promote superstition, gambling, fraud and pornography.

The pop-up cops or Beijing Internet Police as they are also known look to be limited, at this stage, to computers that are run by 13 major portals in the capital.
