A flexible, as in bendable, battery has been developed by researchers at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. The prototype is only a few inches square, but it has potential. It uses paper; the paper is infused with electrolyte and embedded with carbon nanotubes. With the carbon fiber nanotubes acting as electrodes, the paper acts as a separator and the current flows through the electrolyte. The concept is quite simple really, but it is a unique concept and it has some exciting potential in the field of consumer electronics. The potential will, however, take a while to realize. It does not function better than existing batteries on the market and at present it is extremely expensive to produce.
