Pioneer “Kuro” Blu-Ray Disk PlayerStumble This

BDP-LX80

The Pioneer “Kuro” range consists of some of the highest quality consumer grade home-theater equipment that can be obtained at a reasonably affordable price.  Affordable in this case, does not mean cheap, it is rather the opposite of cheap.  The prices are quite high, but within the realms of reason.  You do not have to be a millionaire to afford the luxury of Pioneer “Kuro.”  Two days ago, we reviewed the absolutely stunning VSA-LX70, today we are going to take a look at the matching Blu-Ray Disk Player, the BDP-LX80.

From the ground up, the BDP-LX80 is a high-end BD player.  It offers playback at resolutions of 480/60i, 480/60p, 720/60p, 1080/60i, 1080/60p and 1080/24p.  A variety of video outputs at the back of the unit will allow you to pair your BDP-LX80 with any number of displays.  Audio outputs include both optical and coaxial options.  There is of course HDMI 1.3a and all of the ports are gold plated.  For including your BDP-LX80 in your wired home, there is a LAN port.  This will allow you to playback files from your computer HDD.  PC formats that are supported include MPEG1, MPEG2, WMV9, WMA9, MP3, WAV, JPEG, PNG and GIF.

If you own a Pioneer plasma television, you will only need the BDP-LX80 remote control.   High definition sound formats include Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital plus, Dolby True HD, DTS and DTS-HD High Resolution.  It is the sound format support that separates the BDP-LX80 from its cheaper older sibling, the BDP-LX70.  The 7.1 channel surround output allows the lucky owner to experience 24-Bit surround sound.

Lossless sound and lossless video do not come cheaply.  The price comes in at $1,760, expensive, but affordable for someone who really likes his or her home theater.
