These Pioneer “Kuro” televisions have been on the market for about two weeks. We did in fact make an announcement on them earlier. An announcement is not a review, however, and after spending some time browsing their site and checking out a few store models, it is time to give one. The Kuro televisions look absolutely amazing. The colors are stunning, and they have a 20,000:1 contrast ratio. There is no blur or pixilation visible in even the most rapid movements that I saw. The feature full high definition 1080p video. They look good, really good.
The PDP-6010HD (the 60-inch model) features more ports than you can poke a stick at. There are three sets of co-axial ports, three HDMI ports, a PC in, so that your 60-inch Plasma can function as a monitor a LAN port and three different antenna ports. Of course you will not need them all, especially if you are connecting through the “Kuro” amplifier, but ports are always nice to have. The new line of TVs are great, the problem is the price. Even for a 60-inch TV, the price is too high. If they can reduce the price by about a third, then it will be worth considering.
Prices: $8,392 (60-inch), $6,100 (50-inch)
