I have to say it is about time that something like this came about. There are plenty of tiny, portable multimedia players out there, but they make a lot of compromises. The Wolverine ESP eats its puny competitors for breakfast. It is a big beast, but it does a lot. At 5.3″x2.8″x0.9″ in, it is going to be a little bit too big to stick in your pocket. It will, however, fit nicely into a briefcase, backpack or hand bag. The top of the range model features a massive 250GB HDD and it more media types than this writer cares to name.
- Photo formats include: JPEG, Bitmap, Tiff, Text and RAW images (for most digital SLR cameras).
- For music formats, you have: MP3, WMA, OGG, WAV, AAC (MP4-audio) & CDA (it is nice to see some lossless formats in there.
- Video formats are also quite versatile: MPEG-1, MPEG-4, WMV9 and Xvid.
It also features a built in radio, 7-in-1 card reader and if you opt for the optional cradle, the ability to record from TV/DVD/VCR/Camcorder or any other video source. You can enjoy it all on the 3.6 inch screen or plug it into a TV or projector (the cable is included). It comes in a range of HDD sizes, but the most interesting, by far is the 250GB. The only thing that you should consider is the fact that the Lithium Ion battery, which is good for 4 hours of video watching, will only get you 20GB of data transfer from a memory card. For doing a big data transfer, plug it in. 250GB is an awful lot of media to be carrying around and I for one would be glad to be carrying it. It is NTSC/PAL compatible, so it will work with TVs just about anywhere in the world.
