Despite the incredible advancements in medical technology, the steel tools surgeons use for carving at our bodies haven’t changed much in the past millennium or so. With scalpel evolution being at a screeching halt, it’s about time that researchers conceived of a new method for surgical procedures, and recent tests on pigs shows that the technology works.
Using a device that emits ultrasound waves to a localized spot of the body, similar to a device used in the long running Star Trek series, could be the next wave of medical gadgetry goodness. The waves would be able to seal internal wounds which cause blood to leak into the body. The best part is that there would be no incision necessary, meaning no scars, no healing process, and no blood loss. The localized waves would pinpoint an area, leaving the surrounding tissue untouched.
