Light Chess

It takes something special to make a chess set stand out from the pack. There are literally thousands of designs on the market and no small number of places that will build to order. It is for this reason that we are hoping that Daan van Tulder’s LED illuminated chessboard makes it into production. Four LEDs placed in the corners of the board illuminate it enough for you to play in the dark. The pieces feature a cool, minimalist look and black and white distinction is accomplished through clear and matte squares.

A difficult goal to stand out from the rest, as there are so many different chess games. Therefore I made use of light provided by LED’s. The players are able to play in the dark, which gives the game a whole new dimension. The different pieces are given its characteristics by minimal adjustments of the basic shape.

At the moment the LED Daan van Tulder’s chess set is only in prototype stage, so no prices yet. It is a cool concept, let’s hope that it sees production.
