Tomorrow marks a day in America’s history that will be remembered as the single worst tragedy since its existence. September 11, 2001 marked the day where Americans realized that we are not invulnerable to attacks on our mainland. It was a day of terror and loss, but mostly a day of confusion and newly discovered fear. In remembrance of the many victims of that day, Second Life has created a virtual memorial, featuring a wall of the names of those who perished that day, similar to the design of the Vietnam War Memoral in Washington, D.C.
To symbolize the destruction that occurred on that fateful day, thunder and clouds roar over the wall, with raindrops trickling down the surface of the names like tears. Another similar wall shows small pictures of those who fell. It’s been six years since that historical day, but the memories are as fresh in our minds as ever.

Both visions evolved, responded positively, to the oportunities available to design and express in materials that do not exist in Real Life — for example phantom textures, holographic solar systems, glow effects.
9/11 is many things, and many memorials.
I”ve said this elsewhere in solemn words…

All regards to all the builders of all the many memorials in Second Life, and to all the many, in all the worlds who have yet awakened from the fitful nightmare that shrounds their hearts, and seek some measure of comfort and hope.
If any memorial, if all of them combined, help but one heart rest easier, and look up again to hope, then our collective works are well worthwhile.
