Theoretical speeds really bug me, whether it is my 100 mbps FTTH Internet connection that tops out at 30 mbps or the ZNote Zepto series notebooks that claim a theoretical 600 mbps Wireless N while only managing 150 mbps in real world conditions. To hit the projected real world maximum of 150 mbps you will need to be within twenty-five feet of the access point. That is bad news if you, like me enjoy surfing whilst strolling around the grounds of your massive estate. While 150 mbps is a lot lower than 600, it is still going to be one of the fastest notebook wireless connections on the market.
I live in Japan, so nowhere in my house is more than twenty-five feet of my AP, but were I in my Australian home, that would be a little bit restrictive. It is good for an office, but not if you want something for roaming. With wireless networking a lot of the focus is on speed, which is important in the house and for online gaming. When it comes to mobile computing, however, I really think that range is more important than speed.
Prices: Various, they are very affordable, if you live in the UK check out the page. If you live in the States, bad luck, they won’t ship to you. They offer a no o/s option which is nice if you already own XP or Vista. I configured a very reasonable gaming notebook for about $1,250.
