A clever white LED backlight is the secret behind Samsung’s new energy efficient notebook displays. The new displays will use about 40% less power so we should start seeing some very respectable battery runtimes on the next generation of Samsung notebooks. The bad news is that you will be waiting until the second half of next year before these displays start being incorporated; so if that’s too long to wait, too bad. Either way, this is great news for notebooks in the next few years because battery times have been nothing short of embarrassing. 40% longer battery life is a great start.
