Pictured above is JVC’s monster, a 110-inch plasma display that is currently the largest that anyone can buy, anywhere. Japanese electronics manufacturer Shinoda Plasma is planning to outdo all of its competition with a 142-inch 720p screen. Shinoda Plasma will produce the panels that manufacturers will put into their systems. Unfortunately, there are no customers for the new technology. One would assume that this is aimed at commercial applications rather than home users. The energy consumption of a plasma that size is likely to be nightmarish, the price tag is likely to compare to a small house and one would need a very large room (and doorway) to accommodate a screen hat is close to 12 feet diagonally. As for me, a 50-inch screen would be more than enough.

That JVC TV sure doesn’t look like a plasma with the HD-ILA logo above – a technology used in their projectors and rear-projection TVs… any any panel manufacturer that back-pedals to 720p (especially for the money these big sets get) is crazy.
Panasonic’s 103″ 1080p plasma is by far the best large TV on the planet – crisp, great color with plug-in module versatility (I own one and it’s been a great way to watch sports and other live HD events).

From JVC U.S. PR rep: You’re correct, PS, it’s not a plasma. It uses JVC’s D-ILA technology.
