Spying on your Teenage Kids Ridiculously Easy with Teen Safe Driver

Driving Monitor

Even non-tech savvy parents look like they are going to get the option to spy on their kids every move when they are behind the wheel of Mommy and Daddy’s Lexus. It seems that tracking kids’ movements by GPS is so old school now that it is not funny. The next generation of driving monitors looks set to incorporate video surveillance. In case you are wondering the technology is being honed as you read this by American Family Insurance.

I recoil in horror when I think back to my teenage driving years and can only imagine the fear that I will be going through when my kids get behind the wheel. The fatality rate among young drivers is unacceptably high. American Family claim that there has been a significant reduction in crashes amongst the test sample of its Teen Safe Driver program. Parents now know if their kids are driving too fast, talking on cell phones or getting up to any backseat shenanigans. Funnily enough, the picture shows what is touted as being as “small” camera. The hulking mass of metal and plastic that looks to be bolted to the roof of that family car could probably be considered a driving hazard and probably make people think that Google Streetview has rolled into town.

There is no word on what pricing will be like later on, but for now it is free if you live in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Indiana, Kansas, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, or Idaho.

I think this is a good thing, although Im sure the teenagers feel its too much of invasion of privacy. My daughter is 17 years old and has been begging me to let her have a car when she wants. I know when I was a kid (not all that long ago) we did a lot of crazy things. The camera in car, perhaps a bit too much, but tracking…sure. A few months ago i installed one of the teen tracking devices from brickhouse security. I know where she is, when i want to anytime. She doesnt know I know, but…when shes not where shes supposed to be, i give her a call on her cell phone and give her a little subliminal nudge. Its a bit funny to watch the dot on the map drive away.

Yeah I mean honestly the greatest thing about these is that you can make sure they are not texting which is proven to be more dangerous than driving drunk.
