The Trooper, Wolf King’s Affordable Gaming MouseStumble This

The Wolfking Trooper

The Wolf King Trooper is a late gaming mouse offering from a company that has brought out a few noteworthy gaming accessories. It borrows a lot from high-end gaming mice but according to Extreme Tech fails when it comes to the highest 2200 dpi performance setting. They have done great reviews in the past and are usually right on the money, so without a hands-on we are going to take them at their word. They have laid out their theories as to why the Wolf King was so bad at the 2200 dpi setting, if you want to read it, check out the link at the bottom of the page. Before we look at where it went wrong, however, let’s take a look at where it went right, it really hit the nail on the head for most people’s gaming needs.

First of all, there is the price (which we will show you at the end). It is retails for about half the price of a Logitech G5 and a third of the price of a G9 or MS Sidewinder. It is cheap, not much more in fact, than many non-gaming mice. It has a range of DPI settings that you can switch on the fly. At the press of a dedicated button you can switch between 800, 1600 and the problematic 2200 dpi. That is nice, because you don’t always want lightning speed with your mouse movements. It looks pretty good for a cheap mouse and has a comfortable looking shape. Let me tell you guys, I have some small hands but I like a large mouse; better ergonomics.

Rapid fire settings will let you set the mouse to click up to four times for each press of the button. Again, this can be engaged or disengaged on the fly. The mouse software allows some limited customization of the settings, but does not really stack up against its more expensive cousins from Microsoft and Logitech. While the Extreme Tech report categorically fails it in the 2200 dpi department, we have to ask, is that fact that bad? People who only have a single display will probably be satisfied with 1600 or even 800 dpi performance. A larger screen calls for faster speeds, but even so for a casual gamer 1600 is enough.

It is the price that makes the Wolf King Trooper a winner in my book. At Amazon the Trooper is selling for around $30 and that is not a lot more than a regular optical mouse. If you play a few games, but have a limited budget you could do worse. This is an average mouse for a great price. If it fits your needs, go for it.
