Amazon has finally hit the nail on the head with the functionality that I think is required of an e-book reader. I have long been saying that there needs to be some wireless functionality, wireless functionality that would allow the transmission of magazine and newspapers to which a customer had subscribed. Amazon has done this, but not with wireless a, b, g or n; rather it makes use of Sprint’s EVDO network, straight out of the box. It appears that users will have free access, which is even better.
The Kindle features a QWERTY keypad and free access to Wikipedia. The battery life is good for two days with wireless connectivity switched on and about a week with it switched off. It looks good, though I tend to prefer that my gadgets be black. This device has hit in almost every possible way, except as an international (potential) customer, I have to say that I am disappointed at their choice of wireless network. I would like to see wireless b/g connectivity. That would also allow for easier integration within home wireless networks. For those of you who are stateside, however, this could be the e-book reader that you have been waiting for and you can always connect to it via a USB 2.0 cable. e-ink for the display is a given.
Price: About $400
