Drive eRazer Shreds Your Embarassing Hard Drive Secrets sans Computer

Drive eRazer
Want to shred the contents of your hard drive before you throw it away? Want to clean up a hard disk before selling it, without leaving your files vulnerable? That’s exactly what the Drive Erazer can do and to military standards to boot. There are a million good reasons not to put your hard disk in the trash without destroying the data first. My tried and tested technique involves a hammer and a chisel, but that can be plain dangerous if the glass inside shatters the wrong way. This is simple and it doesn’t destroy the hardware. It writes over the data and if you opt for the more expensive units it uses multi-pass to really make sure.

I don’t expect the casual user would have too many uses for something like this. The Drive Erazer is more up the alley of professional refurbishment companies, IT guys and girls, the freakily paranoid and military spec tech fetishists.

Price: $200 for the “Drive eRazer Versatile bundle – includes Pro model (DRZR-2) plus adapters for 3.5″ or 2.5″ SATA or IDE/PATA Drives.” There is a $100 entry model, but it will only do single pass and only for 3.5″ IDE/PATA. The $200 model does the lot, so that is what I would recommend. It is constructed from sturdy aluminum and weighs in at a surprisingly heavy 2lbs, that is sure to add to the shipping costs, but think about the piece of mind.
