Great Scott, a Wooden TelevisionStumble This

Tree-V

Is wood a more environmentally friendly product than plastic? It can be, it depends on the type of tree that it comes from.  We are assuming that SwedX, the company behind the wooden TV that you see here is doing the right thing by the earth. They are billing it as an environmentally friendly product.  They are using both sapele (which is native to tropical Africa) and beech (native to temperate Europe and North America).

SwedX has a range of televisions ranging in size from 17″ all the way up to 46″.  All that wood is going to require some pretty big trees, so we wonder how much better for the planet this is than using plastic and metal which can be recycled.  The insides are still just as harmful to the earth as they have ever been, so the choice of wood would seem to be aesthetically rather than environmentally motivated.  They have quite the range of wooden products if you are interested.

Prices are reasonable at a touch under $3,000 for the 46-inch model.
