This groovy little gadget is available out of the UK. It is pretty simple really, you replace one of the AA or AAA batteries from your remote with the device, which is a battery / transmitter. Once it is in place you can control just about everything that uses a remote. The battery / transmitter is rechargeable and we are assuming that it might need to recharged a little more often than your regular batteries, but remote batteries last for so long that I doubt anyone would have a problem with it.

The key difference in this extender is how it captures and transmits remote signals. You replace one of the standard AA or AAA batteries from your remote control with the specially adapted battery/transmitter module.
This is the brains of the operations and detects which remote keys you are pressing and transmits these to the main receiver.
Once at the receiver the signal can be distributed to the IR LEDS and on to your desired unit

This is also handy because it increases the range of the remote quite substantially. You can control your devices through walls, so if you want to hide all of your components away, you can still reach them.

Price: $52 from ARGOS in the United Kingdom, I am not sure if they ship internationally, but you are bound to find these things in other places. If anyone finds one of these in the States, do let us know in the comments.
