A French engineer has developed a car that runs on compressed air. It costs 1.5 euros to fill up and gets about 200 km per tank. The 3500 car will be able to hit an impressive top speed of 110 km/h. Video after the jump.

Air powered cars are nothing new. they have been around for 100 years. If you go to the didik.com site, which has an excellent history of electric cars section ( http://www.didik.com/ev_hist.htm ), you can see a photograph and diagram of a compressed air car from 100 years ago! The problem with compressed air cars is that THEY ARE TERRIBLE and don’t work well at all. Every engineer will tell you that compressed air motors have very little torque. Further, compressing the air, requires an enourmous amount of energy. Compressed air cars are a dead end.

Every engneer will not tell you compressed air motors have very little torque! matter of fact air motors can create very much torque,I’ve seen 3/4 inch drive air gun bust a 1 inch bolt that takes a lot of torque! and it doesn’t take an enourmous amount of energy to compress air!
