Here is my prediction, Laser TV will kill OLED before it ever really takes off. Mitsubishi has a working experimental 65-inch model. At ten inches thick, it is a fatty compared to the ultra slim OLED monitors that are starting to hit the market, but it is 65-inches, which puts their puny size to shame. New technology in the pipeline, namely the “super wide angular optical engine” promises to get the thickness down to acceptable levels by the time the first commercial models roll out.
With twice the color spectrum, twice the contrast ratio and the capability of displaying three-dimensional images, Mitsubishi looks to have a real winner on its hands. It is possible that we will start seeing the first commercial models as early as this year. If that is the case, OLED might never make it out of smaller screens.

Laser TV has a shot at saving the fledgling rear-projection market, and this will just be the beginning for integrated laser light engines.

Isn’t this just Laser DLP?
Still doesn’t compete with 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio of todays OLED, which is 100 times better (not just double) the best contrast ratio of plasma’s 10,000:1.
If I was a betting man, I’d have the house on OLED. =]

Lazer is of course an awesome technology but highly unlikely the worlds major corps who are developing and produce OLED related products will be to worried about lazer tv. OLED has alot going for it and the screen size issue is moot. OLED will reach large screen sizes when the time comes and they will rlease them when the time comes.
These companies dont spend multi millions / billions on OLED tech development knowing whats out there and worry about having OLED being defunct before its started.
They both will find their niche as plasma and lcd are today so prevelant.
OLED rules the next wave of tv imho and the news releases , money, development and interets back it up

Cost, of course, will be a factor for many consumers. Which is why rear projection was very popular for so many years despite plasma having a superior picture quality. And, after all, it is “just” a TV, as I keep being reminded from friends of mine.
