The gentleman in the picture above is holding an ax from the movie Gladiator. Old Rusty Crowe did not get his sweaty paws on it, but it already has one attractive bid and you can bet that it is going to get more. While Gladiator is not exactly typical geek motion picture fodder, it certainly has its geek following. I put that down to Dungeons and Dragons fanatics with a fetish for knives and stabbing weapons. eBay seller Delacuse with a 99.5% positive feedback rating has the ax in question which is currently at $1,600 but I am sure that we can expect to see it go much, much higher. According to the description:
A superior prop weapon created by the #1 film armourer in the world for GLADIATOR. This massive, hand crafted, one-of-a-kind axe is made from wood and metal with hand hammered copper and leather adornments. The shaft is hand planed. This is exactly the same axe that the armourer holds and talks about on the DVD (see that all the marks line up). Rubber moulded stunt weapons were made from this hero weapon.
This is a truly sweet looking movie prop and I could see it going very well in some sort of insanely overpriced Gladiator themed home theater. It is not for the faint of heart or light of wallet. If anyone has the time or inclination to follow this, you can drop price updates with time remaining in the comments.
Price: $1600 with 7 days and 11 hours to go.
