The rearview mirror camera does not record what is going on behind you. It is a $450 replacement for a standard rearview mirror with a camera mounted on the front, an SSD slot and a tiny LCD monitor. It ought to take the BS out of insurance claims, you cannot really use the “he came out of nowhere defense” when there is video evidence of your less than stellar driving technique. On the other hand, neither can the other guy. It is a victory for evidentiary procedures if nothing else.
