I don’t care what anyone says, most speakers are a blight on the rooms in which they are installed. The trouble with the speaker is not so much the speaker as the the wires that follow them around wherever they go. The alternative is in-wall systems, which have some definite benefits and just as many drawbacks.
Benefits – they look great, they sound great and you don’t have to see the wires. Drawbacks – they are tough to install and installations must be permanent.
If you own your own home and want some bass on a reasonable budget, the Atlantic IWTS-8e In-wall Subwoofer System, packs plenty of punch for a mid-level price tag. For your money, you get 2 8″ long throw woofers capable of getting down to 20Hz. They are designed to be installed into sheet rock and come with their very own THX Ultra certified SA-380 class AB power amplifier rated at 380 watts.
At $2,200, the Atlantic IWTS-8e is not exactly cheap, but it is certainly not in the out-there dimension that so many audiophile components find themselves in these days.
