Bed Up Rolls Down from your Ceiling Right Over Your JunkStumble This

BedUp
I am fortunate, in some ways, to be living out in the countryside. I get a bit of space, so I don’t need things like foldaway beds. I never liked the look of the Murphy bed, my friend had one in his cramped and dingy apartment. They are not as convenient as they appear to be and are far from being stylish; though they do have a certain quaint appeal. The Bed Up is a new way to deal with the age old problem of city apartment space. Rather than folding into a wall, your bed is drawn up to the ceiling, giving you use of all of that space which is normally wasted.

It is a good idea, but I can imagine that some people are not going to be too thrilled with the sensation of a bed hanging like a sword of Damocles above their heads. The other alternative seems to be sleeping with the bed partially extended from the ceiling. You would access it by ladder. For this to work, you will need a ceiling of unusual height and be able to go through the night without rolling off your bed.

The space saved is tangible; it gives you an extra 12 square feet. You pay for the privilege as the Bed Up is not cheap at $4,300 (and that is before you throw in things like integrated lighting.

I love the concept, but it is not for me.
