Monster Cable EP-3650

There is no way to change the fact that an AV rack full of different brands of products can start to look messy. If you have a bit of equipment and you want to keep it out of sight, Monster Cable has put together an interesting solution, they call it the Empowered PowerCenter. The Monster Cable EP-2450 and its big brother the EP-3650 will condition the power to your precious equipment, removing electromagnetic interference and radio signals that cause distortion. Bunkum you say! It is probably a fair call, and this product would fall into the useless category, except for a neat little touch that they have included. It does more than condition your power, it also redistributes the IR signals from your remote control. This means that you can stash your gear away behind closed doors and let the Empowered PowerCenter do the heavy lifting.

The difference between the two models is the amount of equipment that they can handle The EP-2450 gives you five devices with seven AC outlets, while the EP-3650 will give you up to twelve components with 10 AC outlets. I would say that it would be a rare situation where a power conditioner improved signal quality to a noticeable extent. Therefore, what you are really paying for is a glorified power strip. The thing with this power strip is that it looks really cool and packs the added bonus of getting all of your IR needs managed by one device.

While the cables produced by Monster Cable have fallen out of flavor for much of the tech crowd, I have to say that this power conditioner looks very good. Yes, it carries a Monster Cable price tag, but for the smaller EP-2450, which is big enough for most applications, it is not too bad.

Price: About $380 for the EP-2450 and about $460 for the EP-3650
