New information has come to light regarding the Mitsubishi Laser TV line. The name that Mitsubishi has chosen is LaserVue and while that is not exactly exciting, the price and specs certainly are. Sizes will be between 60″ and 73″ diagonal which is nice, but they will pack a little bit more meat on them; they are going to be 10″ thick. Keep in mind that is a substantial improvement on the depth of rear projection TVs and still thinner than the cabinets that most people sit their flat screens on anyway. An added bit of awesomeness, they will have a refresh rate that is fast enough for 3D.
The most exciting thing about the LaserVue line is the price range of $1800 to $4700.

Was ready to purchase WD 65735 until came across this new “LaserVue” technology.
What is different w/ this tech?
Should I wait for this dlp?

Michelle,
Instead of using a white light that has to be broken into RGB, Mitsubishi is using three separate lasers - red, green, and blue. Some of the advantages are a brighter picture, less power consumption, and broader color reproduction.
Additionally, I imagine the picture detail along the edges and in the corners will be higher. With a normal light, the beam expands as it radiates outward. The laser light is focused, which allows it to maintain the same beam shape over the full length of projection. As an example, stand close to a wall and shine a flashlight at it. Then, move away from the wall. The further away you are, the bigger the beam is. Do the same thiing with a laser pointer and the beam stays the same size.
I’ve been awaiting the release of this set for a long time. I’m somewhat disheartened to see that 60″ is the smallest set they’ll be making. The alcove for my entertainment center will only allow me to go up to a 55- or 57-inch set. I’ll have to either forego my dream set or toss out my $2500 entertainment center.
Alas…

Just wondering if anyone knows when this will actually hit stores, and for that matter what stores. I keep hearing 3rd quarter, but can’t find out anything else. I’d be interested to see how the viewing angle compares to current DLP TVs.

I would be interested to find out the viewing angle as well and suspect it’s actually less than an LCD but better than the DLP.

Umm lots of fault info in this article firstly and most importantly price for the Laservue line has not been announced… secondly that price was for a new line of DLP’s coming out (Just to clarify these DLP’s DO NOT HAVE LASER tech in them) only up to 55″. Laservue will most certainly be more expensive. Secondly to Michelle laser tv’s will be available in sizes up to 73″ (the biggest consumers can get) as long as you can mortage your home and sell your children to child labor factories to finance your laser viewing experience.

BAD REPORTING?
Prices for the DLP sets will range from $1799 to $4699.
The original article is unclear on if they mean the LaserVue. Other sources say $7,000 for the 65″
