StepIt, Exercise for the Deskbound

StepIt
The StepIt, put simply is a small exercise device designed for airline travel, presumably to help reduce the risk of deep vein thrombosis. It is a simple enough contraption consisting of a footplate sitting atop a base. You rock the plate back and forth with your foot to simulate walking. It attaches to a carpeted floor with a Velcro strip.

The StepIt might be designed with travel in mind, but I have to agree with Book of Joe when they say, “Think outside the airline space.” This thing has home use written all over it, especially for those of us that spend much of each day sitting in front of a computer screen toiling away for the entertainment of others. The ideal under-desk setup would be two StepIts side-by-side. I am all for exercise that can be done at work, just so long as it is not too distracting; no treadmill desks for me. The company will be soon be carrying floor mats for under-desk use.

Price: $29.95

Cool idea. Though I wonder how many of the airline issues occur with people who do not get enough exercise in general before they board the plane. I walk all day on my treadmill desk and I think my risk would be lower. Any thoughts on this? I have found a lot of information on treadmill desks benefits and a very unique product at http://www.trekdesk.com
