No Force Unleashed for the PC, a Pattern is DevelopingStumble This

The Force

Lucas Arts has announced that although they are providing Force Unleashed for new consoles and semi-antiques alike, they will not be making a PC version of their soon to be popular game.

Lucas Arts states its reasons for the decision:

If we made the game for high-end PCs, someone with a low-end PC would have a watered down experience, they would have to turn all the settings down and it wouldn”t be the same game. On the other hand if we made that game for as many people as possible then it”s not taking advantage of what those $4,000 systems can do.

Does that sound totally contrived to anyone else? For one thing, a good mid-range PC will give you very acceptable performance on a modern game, all you have to do is take a look at something like Call Of Duty 4 or Assassins Creed to see evidence of that. While Assassins Creed is fairly system demanding, the price of a system that will run it well would be in the $1500 to $2000 mark.

Here is what I think the reasoning behind it is: with a PC release, they are going to lose some sales to piracy. That and there are increasing number of people switching over to consoles because of the value for money that they offer. Lucas Arts does not have the financial motivation to create a PC version, which just strikes me as rude as it was PC gamers that got them started in the gaming business. First GTA4 (which I still hold out hope for) and now this. [Kotaku via Slashgear]
