As video cables get longer, signal loss can start to become apparent. This is the reason why our monitors have been shackled to our components and you don’t see people getting too creative with spreading out their equipment. That could change, however, with the Visionware Hi-Wirez HDMI cable. It is a powered HDMI cord that is designed to minimize signal and it comes with a price tag that would make the folks at Monster Cable blush.
According to the manufacturer:
It has a proprietary silicone core technology enhancing fidelity between source and display. Each connector has a patent pending embedded data chip that ensures lossless video and audio data transfer (video from 480i to1080p and higher) limiting distortion and pixilation. An ultra-slim industrial design for applications that need to fit connectors very close together and a CE rating for in-wall installations and applications. Most importantly, the cable is powered (from either end), allowing for a much thinner and lightweight design that can run over much longer distances than other analog HDMI cables.
It sounds like a good idea, but with a price tag just south of $400 for a 5m cable, I think I will stick to the inconvenience of having my TV close to my components.
Price: $499 for 10m
