Tech Skills and a Mac Book Pro Used to Nab Alleged MacThieves

Alleged MacThieves
Edmon Shankian, 23 and Ian Frias, 20 are two young laptop thieves that are in a whole lot of trouble. It started with a small party where the shiny goods at a young woman’s New York apartment must have grabbed their attention. They came back and stole two flat-screen TVs, two iPods, gaming consoled, DVDs, video games and two laptops from the woman and her room mates. It was one of these laptops, a Mac Book Pro, which was to be their undoing.

A work friend of the victim (from the Apple Store) called her to say that she had seen her online and in the process, gave her a cunning idea. By remotely connecting to the Mac the victim was able to photograph one of the alleged MacThieves, a picture of the other one was already saved on the hard disk. The suspects were identified, duly reported to police and $5,000 worth of stolen electronics was recovered.

I am not a lawyer or anything, but I would say that it is a pretty open and shut case and that the charges of second-degree burglary and fourth degree criminal possession of stolen property are probably going to stick. Don’t drop the soap boys. [LoHud via Blorge]
