Today we have a Russian answer to the the extremely hazardous Flight Recorder Casemod we showed last week. The system is activated by turning the sensitivity dial of the Ion Chamber radiation detectors and when you power it up, the gauge will come to life. Pretty cool, huh? Unfortunately the components don’t do it justice.
- 300 MHz CPU
- 256MB of RAM
- 4GB Compact Flash card for storage.
In case you are wondering, that is enough for a game of Doom, but not a whole lot more. I am figuring that the biggest challenges were probably heat and form factor; hence the compact flash storage. There are no fans on this thing, so opting for lower powered components is a good idea. I don’t, however, believe that the bar needed to be set so low. 1GB of RAM wouldn’t have hurt and the last time I checked there were more powerful VIA boards out there, but who knows what the budget was.
Regardless of what is under the hood, this is without a doubt the coolest casemod I have seen in a long time. [Technabob]
