More rumors are circulating about what looks to be shaping up to become a very interesting update. Mac OSX 10.6, dubbed “Snow Leopard” looks to be quite a major update, but with very little visible change. The changes are taking place under the hood and are not changes that are going to be visible to most users, but they should certainly be noticeable.
The biggest change will be improved support for multi-core processors. This should see some performance improvements, particularly in the area of, but not limited to multi-tasking. Snow Leopard will also be able to make better use of graphics processors.
The update is also set to bring noticeable improvements to some of the core applications, namely Safari and Quicktime. Safari should see a good performance boost, it needs to if it is going to keep up with Firefox 3. The Quicktime improvements are said to involve better video playback. The Mac is getting there and it will be interesting to see how things shape up over the next few years on the Mac gaming front [CNET]
