Solid-state Drive Price Drop Coming (Soon?)Stumble This

Today’s solid state drive (SSD) prices are astronomical. While there are people that are prepared to lay down some serious dollars; the more frugal amongst us are waiting for the inevitable price drop. The good news is that it looks to be coming and the better news is that the drop is likely to start soon.

The end of the year should be the beginning of the end for the low-capacity drives that we tend to associate with the technology. Multilevel Cell (MLC) technology will allow manufacturers to boost the capacity of SSDs to 256GB. As more companies get involved, the prices will inevitably begin to fall.

Intel are allegedly stating that future SSD prices might go as low as $1 per GB, which will see SSDs become a viable option for a much larger number of computer buyers. [Crave]
