Yeah, business news is not all that interesting, but when it involves one of the latest and potentially greatest MMORPGs and a stock devaluation of 55% then it can be. Funcom stocks have dropped from a high of $54 to a low of $24. That is a big drop in any book and illustrates one of the dangers of tech stocks. It is hard to put a value on a computer game so soon after launch.
Incidentally, I have yet to try Age of Conan. [Massively via Joystiq]

Once you have played the game past the first 20 levels one discovers a number of reasons why the stock is sinking like a stone.

i guess Funcom can’t win! they released “Anarchy Online” far too early and got shot down in flames because of all the bugs, lag and crashes. Now they delay the release of Conan to make sure it’s stable and they still get flamed in the press!

Moo, they delayed it, and it still wasn’t ready. People are leaving, stock prices are diving, the game is buggier than heck, and now it has a bad reputation among prospective players.
Yeah, its going to fail, or linger around like SWG. It is now the latest example of how NOT to do an MMO.
Want to know how to do it? Look to Turbine and Blizzard.

Its no wonder, they only have 40K members and ripping people off by charging even after cancellations.
Funcom going bankrupt

Funcom started by offering early access to the game for preorders and then they got too many and couldn’t deliver them all. But it didn’t really matter because the game has so many issues that it isn’t worth the effort to play especially when compared to a smooth game like WoW. I will never buy another Funcom game on release.
