There is a new e-book reader coming to town and it looks ambitious. I am definitely digging the Readius’ flexible screen and the compact form factor. The 30-hour battery life is more than enough for most situations and Bluetooth connectivity for peripherals is a very nice touch; but I am not buying it.
The has all the goods to throw out a serious challenge to the other rivals on the market except for one glaring oversight, the connectivity. If you look at the product specifications, there are plenty of details that make the Readius a viable option, it can be connected to just about everything, everything that is, except the most important thing. The connection options are listed after the jump, can you guess what’s missing?
- GSM/GPRS/EDGE
- UMTS/HSDPA
- USB
- Bluetooth 2.0
- DVB-H
That’s right, despite hooking up with just about anything, the Readius does not appear to be getting 802.Anything. If you ask me, that is a total deal breaker. I want something that can automatically download RSS feeds or easily synch with a folder on my desktop. I don’t want something that needs to be connected by USB cables or worse yet, overpriced airwaves.
The first edition is allegedly out this fall. Let’s hope they act right for version 2.0. [Readius via Oh Gizmo, Slashgear]
