WTF, Texas to Require PC Techs to Have Private Investigator Licenses

Private Investigator
The state of Texas has introduced a law that can only be described as bizarre. Personal Computer technicians will now be required to hold a PI license in order to fix computers. Presumably this is in the wake of oh so many snooping cases involving folks in the biz.

If you live in Texas and fix computers for a living but don’t have a PI license then you will be pleased to know that you now face up to a year of hard time and a $4,000 fine. If you do want to get nice and legal then you need to complete a Criminal Justice degree or a three year PI apprenticeship (to fix computers).

I don’t think the title of your article has anything to do with the law cited. It only pertains to forensic computer recovery or data collection if you read it. It mentions nothing about personal computer technicians. Here is the only line mentioning the word computer “obtaining or furnishing information includes information obtained or furnished through the review and analysis of, and the investigation into the content of, computer-based data not available to the public.” The only repair mentioned is regarding security devices, mechanical or electrical. Maybe your title should read, Please just waste your time reading my bogus article.
