I actually like the idea of a combination lock for USB flash drives. Let’s face it, most people don’t encrypt their sensitive files; so why not physically lock your data? Thanko’s combination lock fits on the connector of your flash drive (or any USB cord) and physically prevents people from making use of your drive.
It is a great way to keep your private files safe from accidental discovery, though I would not trust this to protect really sensitive information.

Completely useless. All you would have to do is snap off (or using a hack saw remove) the lock and usb tip. Then connect a generic usb tip to the drive and download. This only make obtain data 10mins longer. It does discourage covert copying of a usb drive, one could just split open the drive and remove the chip and then reinstall, but it would be harder to hide. If you really want to protect a usb drive first encrypt it and put it in a locking box that covers the whole drive (briefcase, safe, safety deposit box, …)
