Phoenix Lander Identifies Snow Falling on MarsStumble This

The Phoenix Lander has provided evidence of snow forming and falling on Mars. Up until now, it has vaporized before hitting the ground, but scientists are hopeful that snow will actually make it to the surface, before the long Martian winter plunges the Phoenix Lander into darkness.

According to Mars weather specialist Jim Whiteway of York University in Toronto, Canada:

Nothing like this view has ever been seen on Mars. We’ll be looking for signs that the snow may even reach the ground.

While scientist have, for some time suspected the presence of snow, this is the first time that they have been presented with evidence. [Reuters]
